Another good ride logged by the Mariners M/C club.
Approximately l4 bikes and riders gathered on the Ocean side of the Community Center. The meeting place between the two buildings was changed at the last minute but we are a flexible group.
The 9:00 am prompt departure was less prompt due to the change in the meeting take off place but I believe we were underway by 9:30. The usual route was taken, 405 to the 5 and south to Oceanside. Then 78 to Escondido. Our first stop was at about the 8O mile mark. It was getting warm already.
We arrived Julian about ll:45 perfect for lunch. The last 30 miles were very nice road and scenery. Most everyone ate at the same place on an outside patio. The servings of food were humongous. Then we broke up in groups and were to meet back at the bikes at 2:00. Julian is definitely a tourist town with lots of places to eat and buy trinkets. A plug for not having a stripped down Harley bar hoper is that I can carry an ice chest for water and other things. So I said to Susan, go ahead and buy a famous Julian pie and we will put the ice chest on top of it to keep it fresh. Of course then that led to having to have a pie cutter with Julian on the handle so needless to say the group took off and figured out a mile down the road, that not all of us were there and waited. Thanks guys, it just takes longer to leave when your packing Christmas presents and next weeks meals in your saddlebags before taking off. Ha.
The ride back on 76 by Lake Henshaw was nice. There was a biker hangout around that lake called the “hideaway that must have had 100 bikes around it. That would be a good destination for next time. Would cut off a good 80 miles from the Julian ride.
Just prior to coming out on l5, we stopped for gas at Pala, the gambling place we rode to earlier this year. Rick and Joyce lead the ride up to that point doing an excellent job. They were going to be heading straight on l5 at Ellsinore so I led the next leg. The ride from there to the off ramp of Central Ave on the l5 was just a little windy. Not to mention hot. Must remember to layer the clothing.
Next stop was at the lookout 5 miles up from Lake Elsinore. Last stop for water and rest. We left there and ran Ortega. Why cars don’t pull over with 5 cars behind them and 7 M/Cs behind the cars I don’t know. With the gradual loss of riders going their separate ways it was only Don and I taking the 5 fry to as far as I went, Lake Forest exit.
I got home at 5:20. Figured it was about 250 miles round trip. I wasn’t on the Ventura ride, but this was a long one. It was a good long safe ride.
