Palm Springs trip report
5/19/08
For those of that didn't make it, you missed a good trip.  Leaving the church, we had five motor cycles and one car.  Seven people.  The weather was nice and warm.  We had a good ride through Ortega Hwy.  The stop for road construction was brief.   With no traffic in front of us, I was able to step up the pace a little more than usual, which is getting stuck behind a slow car.  Still a safe rate of speed, so much so that Patti my wife actually found that section of the road the most fun to drive. (Her car that is).

We made a stop at the Jack-in-the-Box in Elsinore.   Then we proceeded on, taking Hwy 74 into Hemet where some got gas.  By this time, it was getting hotter.  By the way, this trip took place on a weekend with record heat.  For example, Beaumont's hottest day for Sat (5/17/XX) was 87 degrees and it was 103.    As we went up the hill out of Hemet it because cooler and very pleasant.

The ride across the meadow by Lake Hemet was very nice.  Then on the back side coming down into Palm Desert it started getting hotter.  We stopped at the lookout and took a bunch of pictures.

Arriving into Palm Desert at 3:00 pm and 108 degrees made the Mimi's restaurant a welcomed stop.  Food was great.  Then the last 10 miles of stop and go getting to the Motel was uncomfortable to say the least.  However, that made the jump in the pool that much more fun.   I thought the rooms were very nice at the Best Western.

With the later than expected arrival into Palm Springs (5:00 pm), dinner was "do your own thing".  Some went into downtown Palm Springs for Ice Cream.  Steve and Oksana had never been to Palm Springs so they got their first look-see.

The next morning we had the Motel's C+ Breakfast by the pool.   At 9:00 am we checked out and drove 1.8 miles to the Church.  Everyone said the Church reminded them of Mariner's worship center prior to moving into the current one.  The sermon was presented by a young preacher.  We learned that the regular preacher was off on a mission.  The message was good.

Next, we topped off with gas and headed up the hill returning the same way we came.

The group couldn't wait until we arrived at Polly's Pies in Hemet so we ate lunch at a biker place at the crossroad of Hwy 74 and some road going to San Diego.  It was a fun place.   Nice ride down to Hemet.   Not too HOT, until we arrived in Hemet and then we stopped at Polly's Pies for 18 glasses of water, and their lemonade.   I for one had cherry pie with two scoops of ice-cream.  It was a welcome break from the heat.  For anyone working to retire some day in Hemet, you may want to re-think your plans.  It is too hot for even Cactuses to grow.  Ha

Leaving Polly's and until we started up Ortega Hwy by the Lake it was a bit hot, but bearable.   Again, we lucked out with the traffic on Ortega.  We were able to make good time.  The road work stop was only about 6 minutes.  Not bad.

We came out on the 5 Fwy.  and headed home.  People split off from there onto their separate ways.  I believe everyone had a good time despite the warm weather.  My wife Patti was initially, "most" reluctant to drive her own car and follow us on all the windy roads.   She did an outstanding job of keeping up and she actually enjoyed it.  She got to listen to all the Joyce Meyer CD's she hadn't gotten around to.  She had her drinks and pretzels.  She told us she only ran the air conditioner set on 75 degrees out of sympathy to the rest of us, rather than a cooler 72 degrees.  I know that made me feel a little cooler.  NOT!!!

See you all next time.

God Bless

Jerry & Patti
Have a great day!
