Pechanga Ride
November 15, 2003
Mariner’s Riders Pechanga Casino Ride Report. We met at 9:30 am and allowed for a few more minutes, for latecomers. Actually departed at l0:00 am and since there were only seven bikes we voted on not taking the toll road, cheating them out of $21.00 … ( 7 X 3 = $21) Only five minutes difference.

We had no problem deciding to go weather wise because we had a guarantee that it would not rain, from the only female rider. (Jan did not take part in this ride). By the time we got to San Clemente it started a light drizzle. It was still fine. Hardly worth mentioning, but it wasn’t supposed to rain.

Nice ride down the 5 Fwy to Oceanside and then East on 76. That is a nice ride over to the l5 Fwy. Still high, dry and warm. When we hit the 15 Fwy and headed North toward Temecula, the temperature must have dropped 15 degrees. However, it was only 10 miles to the Pechanga turn off. As we turned into the Casino the 8th bike (Jim Arnold) caught up to us. He had a new BMW touring model and had run out to Anso Barego before catching back up to us.

The new Pechanga Casino is quite impressive. We had three choices of places to eat. Three took the buffet for $12.95. Seven of us ate in the café and it was very good. All 10 gathered in the café for the raffle drawing. The big winner was Vickie (the only female rider) Vickie won some Harley cleaning products for her rice burning rocket motorcycle. Guess the cleaners will work???????

Candice, one of the two female passengers, won a Christmas Ornament, of course a replica of a Harley. I am kind of hoping that she might want to put that on my tree instead of her tree. I will add that to my prayer list.

Since none of us are gamblers, we all opted to head out l/2 hour early. We fueled our bikes, Vicky and Kirk shot back ahead of us to get to the Mariners Big Event. The rest of us headed out, taking the same route, through Ellsinore and up the hill to Ortega Hwy.

By the time we hit the road up the hill from Ellsinore our guarantee of no rain had run out. It was coming down pretty good. We stopped at the “Lookout” to count our options. (l) Go for it and ride in the rain. (2) Wait for the rain to stop. Yeah, right. (3) Go back to option (l). Paul led us home at a very safe speed in the rain. I have to say, in 30 years of riding motorcycles, 20 years with this one bike; that was the first time I have ever ridden in the rain. It wasn’t all that bad. Of course I have a windshield, full-face helmet, chaps, and stereo music playing in the helmet. Perhaps the no windshield guys with open helmets have a different view or no view in this case. Ha!

We all got back safely at 3:30 pm. It was a nice ride and to collect on your “Rain Checks”… see the only female rider who will remain nameless.

God bless,
Cowboyjj
